I talk constantly about the night sky. It occurred to me that people may be so out of touch with the universe, even the simplest reference might elude them. The other day I was asked what the bright light in the sky was; my answer Venus surprised my friend who had no idea the planets were visible.
So here it is; courtesy earthsky.org. This link explains the visible planets.

In a day or two I’ll move on to the stars. In no time at all pointing out constellations will become second nature.

This I know
It’s amazing how many people don’t. After the Northridge earthquake in California, power was knocked out in most of LA. Thousands of people called 911 and police depts. reporting strange lights in the sky. It was the Milky Way!
Have you ever seen auroras?
I haven’t seen them. Also why is that we find moon and venus together most times? I hope this aint a stupid question
It has to do with the orbit of Venus in relation to ours. Venus also goes through phases like the moon depending on where it is in the orbit around the sun.
As for auroras – I’m sure they are the reason I gaze at the sky with wonder.
Where I live, i.e. Mumbai, most part of the year is cloudy. We hardly see stars here forget auroras. Next time, when I am in the mountains, will look for them
I’ll let you know when a good geo-magnetic storm is happening – that’s when the best auroras occur.
great.
