A Strange Light in the Sky

After the 1994 Northridge earthquake knocked out power in a large area of Southern California, including most of Los Angeles – emergency operators, police stations, universities, and the Griffith Observatory, were flooded with thousands of calls from panicked residents reporting strange lights in the sky. Many callers reported a strange silvery cloud -they were seeing the Milky Way for the first time. The bright lights were nothing more than stars usually obscured by the light of the city.
