Last Ramone Gone

In those days I needed sedation –¬† a fresh eyed girl, straight off the farm, cutting loose in the big city – this song might as well have been my anthem. Work, school, any semblance of normality – nothing more than the hours between dawn and dusk. Darkness signaled transformation,, a time to awaken¬† alter egos, becoming people of the night.

We became savages; barbarians fueled by excess. Worshiping clubs, bars, murky shadows – going anywhere the “scene” demanded. Punk was raw – we became disciples of protest and irreverence. When this song played we danced as if in CBGB’s New York.

Tommy Ramone passed away today at the age of 62. The last surviving member of The Ramones, a seminal punk rock band formed in New York, 1974. I’m not sad or surprised; what I am is grateful for a time in life when I kicked conformity’s ass.
