Evangelical Hurricane

Common sense knows lesbians aren’t responsible for Hurricane Harvey. Radio preacher Rick Wiles begs to differ, suggesting Houston is underwater because it “boasted of its LGBT devotion”. Enter my favorite nincompoop Ann Coulter, who tweeted – I don’t believe Hurricane Harvey is God’s punishment for Houston electing a lesbian mayor,” “But that is more credible than ‘climate change.’ ”

Right Wing Watch reported Pastor Kevin Swanson’s caution on hurricane Irma –  the storm path would be altered by God if the Supreme Court quickly made abortion and gay marriage illegal.

Rush Limbaugh doesn’t blame hurricane season on God, however he fingers “liberal media hype” – “There is a desire to advance this climate change agenda, and hurricanes are one of the fastest and best ways to do it,” he argued, claiming that “hurricanes are always forecast to hit major population centers.”

Twenty years ago religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said Orlando should beware of hurricanes for allowing the Gay Days celebration. Robertson said the widespread practice of homosexuality “will bring about terrorist bombs, it’ll bring earthquakes, tornadoes and possibly a meteor.”

Jim Bakker deserves mention, his tenacious resolve to profit from God is staggering. Not for a post Harvey assertion “this flood is from God”, but for saying so while pitching “Tasty Pantry”, a line of dehydrated survival food sold to sustain the faithful during the coming apocalypse.

I shudder to think how many people take natural disaster as Gods wrath. How many buy nonsense of climate change conspiracy or fail to understand the significance of 79 degrees Fahrenheit – when surface water in the Atlantic reaches 79 degrees it evaporates at the rate of 180 tons an hour, water vapor rises forming massive clouds of low pressure. Caught in rotational force, clouds rotate pushing away high atmospheric pressure, feeding on energy of continuous evaporation a hurricane is born of warm ocean water, not God.

Stop this Biblical nonsense.

Please America – Watch and Ponder

I’ve recently discovered a series produced by HBO called The Newsroom. Ridiculously great – they seamlessly blend the story line with actual news footage.

Every single American should watch this 3 minute clip from the opening episode. Next – every single American should buckle down and watch a full episode or two. I mean all Americans, especially those who kiss the feet of Glen Beck or Ann Coulter, and refer to CNN as “the Communist News Network”.

I’m being serious; digest a few episodes – then we’ll talk. I’m patiently waiting to hear the response from tea partiers.

Justin Bieber and Foot Fetishes

I started this blog almost a year ago; closing in on 300 posts my mind is blown over which ones rose to the top. The term “blown” is perhaps a tad dramatic – lets say I’m amused and slightly annoyed by my top posts by views. After a year of pondering one thing is certain; there are a lot of Justin Bieber fans, and foot fetishes are definitely out of the closet. A ridiculous number of people had to learn if all Vikings had blue eyes, and how much the tongue of a blue whale weighed. The discovery of a planet made of diamonds, the planetary alignment over Giza, and Ann Coulter making me nuts settled in below that.

“Pondering Stephen Harper” wasn’t about Bieber; I made reference to Bieber innocently enough in the last paragraph. Harper ditched a meeting with provincial premiers to shake hands with the Biebs. After my About/home pages this is my top post. The search terms Stephen Harper (misspelled as Steven 95% of the time) and Justin Bieber led to the bat shit crazy number of hits.

Then “Feet” – search terms like “dirty feet on children” , “curled toes on feet”, “bare feet in bed” – it was a post about how much I hated my feet as a child because they were wide. I wrote about reaching a place where I stopped burying them in the sand; how feet told a story – once you accepted perceived flaws – beauty could be found in unexpected places. Nope. That post sits at the top because multitudes wanted to look at bare feet.

At a loss to explain blue eyed vikings or a blue whale tongue weighing as much as an elephant – 55 Cancrie E; a planet made of diamonds makes a little sense. It’s made of diamonds! “Help – Ann Coulter Exploded my Mind” makes me feel a lot better – at least it’s a post expressing my opinion, and arrived at honestly.

My first post rests comfortably in the middle. In 1804 Thomas Jefferson publicly announced seeing a UFO…

Tomorrow I’ll ponder my favorite posts.

Help – Ann Coulter Exploded My Mind

A few short months into my blog, well meaning conviction to keep politics and religion out of the mix met its match today. Please forgive my weakness – Ann Coulter appearing on CNN with Piers Morgan tore resolve into a thousand piece. My head exploded and I need help.

Grumpy to begin with, driving home  from work I heard that Meatloaf endorsed Romney. Asking myself what I cared about Meatloaf didn’t help, purely on principle I felt my mood darken.Walked in the door, flicked the television on, unprepared for Ann Coulter’s caustic jibber-jabber. She was defending her use of the word “retard”. Blood pressure rising, attempts to calm myself with thoughts of the upcoming Neil Young concert failed miserably. A brief solitary debate questioned the logic of my rage – not as a Canadian (despite the fact such nonsense would never air in Canada), but as a person grounded in inclusion, sensitivity and common sense, I screamed “you stupid bitch” at the TV screen.

Ann’s use of the “R” word comes from a tweet she made.” I highly approve of Romney’s decision to be kind and gentle to the retard ”

For starters Ann – you couldn’t have been more ignorant or abusive if you tried. In case you didn’t receive the bulletin – in 2010 the U.S. Congress made it law – the words “retard” and “retardation” to be replaced with “intellectual disability” in all health, labour, and education laws. Federal law aside, I ponder what kind of person would defend their position as venomously as you do over simple human decency and compassion. My goodness, what point are you trying to make?

Once upon a time I was able to take all this with a grain of salt. Now a creeping dread invades my world. I may be crazy but have to laugh knowing it was Ann Coulter who broke the camels back.
